Dr. Jeff Orchard from University of Waterloo Visits USLab and Gives a Talk on Biological Study (加拿大滑铁卢大学Jeff Orchard博士访问USLab实验室并做学术报告) [2016-06-10]

On June 8th, Dr Jeff Orchard, a professor with the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Waterloo, Canada, was invited to visit USLab. Dr Orchard gave a talk on Biological Study. USLab members, some faculty members of the School of IEE and students participated in the talk. Dr Orchard introduced the famous error back propagation algorithm and proposed a microcircuit based method that can form the basics of biological learning building blocks. In the discussion session, Dr Yuan Zhang introduced meditation in Chinese traditional culture. The two professors took part in a productive discussion on using EEG signal to verify the optimization effects of meditation on brain neural networks.
Professor Orchard is one of the core members of the Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience, University of Waterloo. His research interests include Computational Neuroscience through the mathematical modeling and computer simulation to understand the complex operation mechanism of brain, visual web of unsupervised learning, population coding, medical image processing, and he has recognized contributions in related fields.

  Orchard教授是滑铁卢大学理论神经科学中心核心成员,他的研究兴趣集中在计算神经学(Computational Neuroscience),通过数学建模和计算机仿真来理解大脑的复杂运行机理,在基底核网络的决策模型、视觉网络的无监督学习、种群编码、医学图像处理等领域做出了突出贡献。他历任多个知名国际会议的技术委员会委员及分会主席,并作为加拿大自然科学与工程基金和多个国际顶级期刊的评审人。
